Our fleet of boats consist of American, aluminium Trackers with live wells. They are powered by brand new Yamaha 65 engines. There is space for 2 to 3 fishermen per boat, plus the professional fishing guide. We also have a pontoon with a flat deck and roof, available for river cruises, bird watching and sun downers, etc.
Tiger Fish are rated as the best fresh water sports fish in the world and the Barotse is the spot that provides the opportunity to catch that “bucket list" trophy fish.
We would like to point out that all our fishing is strictly CATCH and RELEASE.
The seasonal rain determines the volume of water in the river, when it floods, recedes and flows gently. This in turn obviously affects the fishing and techniques used. When the river floods into the vast Barotse plains, the fish migrate into the flood plains to breed. As the water recedes, so does all the bait fish, into the river, causing a feeding frenzy.
RODS: We would advise a long stiff rod, strong enough to set the hook and turn the fishes head for full control. Ie, power medium to heavy, Jig weight 110 to 240g, action medium to fast and length 7ft and above.
REELS: You will need a good quality reel with a good smooth drag and big enough to hold a good amount of line. Suggest a Shimano Baitrunner 4000 / 6000. Baitcasters with a very good drag are suggested for spinning.
LINE: 30 to 50 lb braid
TRACE: 40lb nylon coated
HOOKS: Black, J or Circle hooks ( Gamakatsu ) size 5/0 to 7/0
SWIVEL: Ball bearing swivels with breaking strength 80lbs
SINKERS: ½ to 1 ½ ounce running sinker
LURES:
Early morning and late afternoon, casting with a ZARA SPOOK works well.
Spoons: single and double bladed copper effzetts
Lures : Rapala floating surface lures in redhead, hot tiger, white or purple.
Arashi Tiger Bull Dog
For bream, DT6 or 6cm fatrap rapalas
Flies : sparcely dressed clousers in red/black and purple/black.
